Total scam!

I sold the TriStar MG8 model for a few months. I got out of it because I'm not a sales person, but I was thoroughly impressed with the machine. I did no-pressure demonstrations in homes where they had just had the carpets professionally cleaned, and pulled incredible amounts of pet hair and dirt out of the same carpets. The people were shocked! I did a demo for a friend who had just cleaned his carpet with another well-known, very expensive brand just before I got there, and I pulled multiple bags of pet hair out of his "clean" carpet as well. Another lady raised and sold expensive, rare cats from her home, and was looking for a vacuum that could clean not only cat hair from the furniture and carpets, but litter from the hard wood floors. Her Dyson, designed for pet cleanup, just wasn't doing the job. She vacuums her house every day to keep the possibility of disease down, yet the MG-8 was able to pull an amount of pet hair from the carpet that truly surprised her, and had no problem with the litter on the floor. The engineering of this machine is like nothing I've ever seen. There is absolutely no loss of suction or power because the air flow is over the top of the dirt in the bag, and it never clogs. The force of the air flow is so strong around the bag that you can put sand in it almost to the top, open the lid while it's on, and turn the whole machine upside down and not lose any sand! I loved doing that part of the demo because it blew me away every time I saw it. It's expensive, and they will negotiate, but at the same time, you won't find a machine that is as powerful and cleans the way that thing does. It was designed by aircraft engineers who designed the air filtration systems on jet aircraft. They had to run for hours in flight without clogging. We were so impressed with it, that my wife and I are still looking for one that we can afford to buy. There are always people who are going to be disappointed with the presentation, and even the product. But I can venture to say that all of those who are happy with the TriStar machines aren't going to be on blogs like this, and they way outnumber those with complaints. I discovered that the reason they do in-home demonstrations is because you have to see this thing work and understand the uniqueness of the design to appreciate what it is. If you saw it on a store shelf somewhere, you'd have no idea how to compare it to other machines. I don't sell them anymore, so I don't have a thing to gain by my comments, but I still want one. I truly believe they are the best vacuum on the market ... expensive ... but still the best.

TriStar from early 80's

We bought a TriStar vacuum in the early 1980's. It was initially expensive but since I'm still using it, I think it was a bargain. It's still going strong, and I expect to keep using it for some time. The only things I don't like are the weight and the noise level. (Maybe the newer models have resolved this. And btw, I've not been good at maintenance AT ALL. Once in awhile when I think of it, maybe.
Love this machine.

Inadequate Design

purchased a Tristar vacuum 2 and a half years ago for $2200. (Yes, I got sucked into the home demonstration scam, too!) The sales contract allowed me to pay in payments for around the same amount of time. Just before my pay off was due the motor head quit working. I called the company and they had an "Authorized Technician" call me back to walk over the problem with me. I plugged the "wand" into the "motor head" and the "hose" into the "canister"; the rug attachment wouldn't come on. Then the technician began to explain to me how the company had known about a design flaw with running the power connection through the hose and having the connectors pull away from the insertion point into the canister, SINCE 1999! I became aggravated with the company for not fixing the problem, frustrated with the technician for the insight and decided to call the "Authorized Dealer" that sold me the vacuum. After a few moments of conversing with the salesman, I was told that was a "soft" part and it was only warrantied for two years. On top of the warranty running out, this guy decided to instruct me how to disassemble the hose and fix it myself. By that time I was sick to my stomach and found it increasingly hard to complete my payment plan. If anyone is looking to buy a MG 8 Tristar vacuum (repaired by my local vacuum repair...), For Half Price, please let me know!!!
