Consumer reviews about Shaw Laminate Flooring

Nonsense

I found a local auction site selling various lots of 7mm and 8mm Shaw laminate flooring. I felt the price to be reasonable, but after reading all the posts on this site, I am REAL happy to say I have not placed bid, and not wasted one dollar. I feel everyone's pain, having been screwed over by a vinyl siding contractor and manufacturer, but I want you you ALL to know that speaking out will keep at least one more person from spending hard earned money on an obviously faulty product. Thank you all, for sharing your bad experiences, and KEEP SPEAKING OUT ! ! ! -Mike in Buffalo

Nonsense

Shaw laminate floor installed a year and a half ago and it is buckling along the seams. Rep comes to our house with the store owner and says it is water damage. Absolutely no chance it is water damage. The boards that are damaged are not even close to sink or dish washer. We point this out. Her decision is that we used too much laminate cleaner. What? Shaw is the worst company. I am filing a complaint with BBB and considering hiring a lawyer.

Nonsense

I installed $4, 000 of Shaw laminate on our first story floors after renovation. They do not lock together good at all because they have cheapened the interlocking edges. I installed Shaw laminate on the upstairs floors about 7 years ago and the process went well. Comparing some leftover flooring from then with the flooring used last year, you can see how cheap it is now. Shaw makes a crappy product so don't look for their customer service to be any different. than the flooring. I tell anyone who is thinking of flooring NOT to use Shaw. I even sent Warren Buffet a letter because Berkshire Hathaway has Shaw Industries as a holding company. NO response back from him. If you buy Shaw you will be holding your ass when everything is said and done.

Nonsense

Shaw laminate is garbage and the warranty is worthless. The factory rep comes to your house and automatically says the bubbling is water damage. Even when the bad boards are in random areas not even near the sink or dishwasher. I wish an attorney would take up a class action lawsuit against Shaw. We would get pennys on the dollar but I would derive great satisfaction from seeing Shaw's reputation tarnished.

Nonsense

I agree with the OP. A few years ago we installed Pergo in one room in our basement. We loved it (and it doesn't have any of the Shaw flooring problems, though we didn't know this at the time) but we didn't want the bamboo print in the upstairs part of the house. Shaw makes a beautiful figured maple pattern laminate, we did as much homework as we could, spent the same amount we did on the Pergo, and thought we were getting a good product. We were very wrong. Within 2 days, our small dog had a small accident and the floor bubbled. Despite being uber-cautious about water ALL THE TIME, things happen, and the Shaw doesn't hold up. A drip from a water bowl, an accident we didn't find in time, a stray ice cube on the floor, guests who come in with wet shoes... Life happens, but the Shaw is ridiculously sensitive. Fifteen minutes (tops!) is all you get to clean up a spill, even a small one, before the floor is ruined permanently. (This does NOT happen with the particular style of Pergo we chose for the basement.) There really should be a disclaimer for this flooring: For bedrooms only! It's terrible for kitchens, laundry rooms, and room adjacent to exterior doors. We've even had a problem having Shaw flooring *near* our bathroom. My advice to anyone who wants Shaw? Don't.

If you have had a problem with Shaw not honoring their warranty, I urge you to contact the BBB in Tennessee/Georgia and file a complaint. For all the complaints on the net, there are less than 200 complaints filed with the BBB. It is not difficult to do, just Google BBB and follow the links to the Tenn/GA region. Here is the info you will need. http://chattanooga.bbb.org/consumers
Shaw Industries
PO Box East Walnut Ave.
Dalton, GA 30722-2128
The BBB in Tenn/Ga give Shaw an A+ rating. We need to change that.

Nonsense

I have had this in my personal house for less than 3 months and the joints began to seperate. The planks began to buckle in the oddest place. Contacted flooring store that sold me the floor and had 2 inspectors, 3 installers and the manager of the flooring store come and see. All agreed that this was a material issue. Shaw denied having a problem with the material. I have 18 houses and all have laminate in them. I will NEVER USE SHAW AGAIN!!!

Nonsense

Wish I would have read this thread before we had Shaw laminate flooring put down in December 2011. Within 2 weeks of it being installed, the corners of some of the 'boards' started to peel. The floor had never been mopped before we noticed the peeling. We contacted the store that installed the flooring who submitted a claim to shaw. Shaw sent an 'inspector' to our house. Our claim was denied as 'improper care and maintenance'. WHAT? after 2 weeks? Don't buy any Shaw products...their handling of this claim for an obvious bad product, speaks volumes on what kind of company they are. Side note: We previously had Pergo brand laminate for 14 years with no problems.

Shaw's Pathetic Laminate Flooring

Exact same situation as everyone else...blistering and or curling at the seems. It actually blistered under a couch !!! Explain that one !! Their flooring is nothing more than particle board with a sheen on it !! I am furious that we all spent our hard earned money to have a company as big as Shaw con everyone with their false warranty !! It is useless !! We had Pergo flooring in our hair salon for 15 years and that floor was continually wet !!! It looked the same 15 years later as when we put it down. Shaws flooring won't last a month. NO MOISTURE, NO CHILDREN, NO PETS, NO HUMANS should live on this flooring, They have their little process of denying the claims down patt...they send the inspector out ... he actually asks you how many people live in the house and how many pets you own. Why don't they pose these questions before you make your purchase !!! What does it matter if I have a family of two or five. If there flooring does NOT stand up to a family then they should have a disclaimer stating "NOT meant for use with Humans and pets". DON'T even gamble on their flooring, you might as well take your 10k and throw it in the trash.

Shaw Laminate

This is by far the worst flooring there is. It is all bubbled and raised in so many places. Needing to know if we have any legal recourse since we are senior citizen renters with an impeccable rental history and these owners say we are liable for any damage to the floors. We were under the understanding we were getting 'wood flooring'. This is the worst replica of wood we have seen. Wish they had read these reviews before buying this stuff. If it was a gift, they paid too much!! Are we liable? I have pics but am having trouble posting them. It is bad tho and will figure out how to send the pics. I am great at posting on Facebook but haven't tried any other site. Tried and it won't work for me. :(

Shaw flooring buckling

Had Shaw flooring put in throughout my kitchen and living room after
Hurricane sandy renovation. About a month after the install its buckling
All over the place. Originally had Pergo in the kitchen only and
Absolutely no issues. I didn't request pergo again only because I read
Rave reviews about Shaw. And the contractors floor guy dealt mostly
With Shaw. Came across this site and saw all the complaints.
Man do I feel like an ass. I should've just stuck with what I knew
And experienced with Pergo.

Shaw laminant flooring

Had our Shaw Laminant flooring installed less than a year ago. The planks and getting gaps at the ends and the height of planks is not even. These gaps and uneven edges allow the slightest amount of moisture to get in, which in turn is causing bubbling and chipping. This is our 2nd laminant floor. Our first was a cheaper brand, installed by the same installer, in a previous home. That floor was bomb proof. We went with Shaw because of the 20 year warranty. We are finding now that the warranty is not honored. Our floor salesman has inspected and taken pictures. He agrees this is a big problem but now Shaw wants him to jigsaw out a section and send it to them. More stall tactics. This is so disappointing!

Buckling defectice installer McGlasson acclimation issue and not product?

I used an installer Bryan McGlasson who Shaw says was responsible for defective installation of laminate flooring due to failure to acclimate product prior to installation. Could this be your problem? Bryan McGlasson is the owner of a number of carpeting and flooring companies in Colorado including Floor Covering Direct, Inc., Floors Free Inc. (855) 833-3733, and Direct Flooring & Design Inc. of Castle Rock/ Highlands Ranch (303) 471-2485. I contracted with Bryan McGlasson and Direct Flooring to install laminate flooring from Shaw in the ground floor of my townhouse in Colorado. Bryan McGlasson failed to properly acclimate the flooring product after delivery and before installation. I notified Bryan McGlasson that floor was beginning to warp at the seams. A few months after being installed, Bryan McGlasson had the manufacturer (Shaw Flooring) send a representative who inspected the defective flooring, and declared it to be a total loss due to severe buckling and warping to the point at which it was not usable because Bryan McGlasson failed to properly acclimate the product after delivery and before installation. A second credentialed flooring expert also perform testing on-site and determined that the flooring had warped to the point at which it was not usable because Bryan McGlasson failed to properly acclimate the product after delivery and before installation. Bryan McGlasson and Ryan McGlasson did not disclose to me at the time that they had lost their Shaw dealership rights due to non-payment. Bryan McGlasson and Ryan McGlasson would not stand behind their labor or materials warranty. If Ryan McGlasson, Bryan McGlasson or Floors Free, Inc. promise you any type of warranty, do not believe them. As the company’s officers, they do not stand behind their work.

Formaldehyde issues?

Following years with an indestructable Pergo floor, when we moved into our retirement village apartment we chose laminate flooring everywhere save bathrooms and laundry room. Paid a premium for Shaw. Immediately found it virtually impossible to keep clean as it spots quickly. Our issues are health related; immediate "allergy issues" for all, including pets. We thought it was because we had moved into a heavily wooded area from seaside. Now EPA and CDC cite carciogenic issues with many Chinese made laminates (and Canadian, who knew?). Is there any way to discover if Shaw products from 2011-2012 would be included on this alarmingly high list?
I realize this is a question rather than a review but hope someone has helpful information.

A few months after purchasing Shaw Laminate Flooring it began to bubble, separate, come up, peeling, is almost impossible to clean and keep clean, Notified Jordan Flooring in Tupelo Ms, and discussed the problem with them, they told me to call Shaw Flooring which I did, they sent a man out here with a meter and of course it was water damage, and high moisture problems?? Which is absolutely NOT true, it is not even where the sink, or bathrooms are It is all in the living room, dining room, kitchen (away from the sink) and other areas where there is NO water. I found the site and I have filed a complaint and I hope everyone else does also. This is NONSENSE and the flooring is ridiculously high.. And also my whole family is suffering from severe allergies.

Poor Quality

I had laminate flooring by Shaw (Tropic Cherry) installed in a new build home. In less than 6 months it began cupping/lifting in several places. Installer replaced boards on 3 or 4 occasions which did not stop the problem from occurring. After 1.5 years it was suggested the floor should be replaced since the problem continued. No one (installer, retailer, manufacturer) has stepped up to own this problem and I am left with only a law suit alternative. Any ideas? I would highly discourage anyone from using a Shaw laminate floor product.

I had similar problem Shaw laminate flooring warping

Turned out to be failure of installer to acclimate flooring after further investigations and testing by Shaw and my own expert. Shaw initially looked hard for water damage but there was no possible source. I contracted with Direct Flooring & Design (owned and operated by Bryan McGlasson, who now owns and operates Floors Free, Inc.) to provide and install laminate flooring from Shaw Flooring in the ground floor of my townhouse in Colorado free of defects. McGlasson's company does carpeting, tile and hardwood floors. After the installation, I notified McGlasson that floor was beginning to warp at the seams. A few weeks after being installed, McGlasson had Shaw send a rep who inspected the defective floors for free, and declared it to be a total loss due to severe buckling/warping because McGlasson failed to properly acclimate the product after delivery and before installation. A second (independent) credentialed flooring expert also performed testing on-site and determined that the floors warped because Bryan McGlasson failed to properly acclimate the product. I expected him and his company to stand behind the warranty and fix the floors problem for free but McGlasson refused. Bryan McGlasson appeared in small claims court when I sued him and confessed judgment to all claims on behalf of his company, which judgment is still unpaid and outstanding at this time.

Wow - I wished I had seen these reviews before getting my Shaw laminate flooring. My dog and myself got sick at the start of installing. Lots of meds and drs appts - very healthy person. Very healthy dog - who mysteriously dies from kidney failure during installation process. Installation has been done for over a month and a half and I am still having ears, nose, throat and severe headache problems. Trying to get cleared up. I am sure that this flooring let off fumes that were toxic to me and my dog. I was able to go to work & be out of the environment every day - he was not.
I'm not a rich person and it took me a very long time to save in order to get this flooring. I'm not sure what my next step should be. Any suggestions??
