condition of safe

We own a Sentry A5835 safe. For over 5 years we have used the same combination. All of a sudden we can't open it. I called Sentry and spent about an hour with their tech person. She couldn't help so she suggested I get a lock smith and (pay out of my pocket over $100 to get it open). Well, this is the last Sentry product that my wife and I will buy. Also we told all of our relatives and friends. None of them will purchase a Sentry product for their personal papers.
