took more money then they should
If you are a dollar away from overdrafting your account over a $ 3.62 cent charge, Redbox is the least of your worries.

When it comes to their pre-authorization hold, no money is actually taken our of your account at the time the disc is dispensed from the kiosk. The pre-authorization hold is sent to your bank & then your bank must then tell Redbox whether or not you have sufficient funds in your account. The only time money is ever collected from an account is after the disc is returned (for the total # of days you kept the movie/ game) OR if it goes the full 25 days, in which case you will be charged the full price of the disc & will not be charged any more fees, the disc is yours to keep at that point. Redbox does not overdraft accounts either-- if there is not sufficient funds in your account, Redbox will take what it can... then try again in 7 days to collect the remaining funds. if the funds still are not in the account, another 7 days will go by until they check again. this continues until the full amount can be collected. The pre-authorization hold is a safeguard for Redbox against being completely ripped off for DVD's that a customer knows they cannot afford.
