Return Policy no Store Credit
First I think you mean receipt not receive and second I dont understand how a death in the family makes you lose the receipt.

Return Policy no Store Credit
Call and speak to mangement, contact their corporate office if need be. You can try returning it to another Big Lots.

Target will only let you do a limited amount of returns without a receipt, as does every other store.

Unfair treatment
I am a reatail Store Manager and issues like the one stated above happen all the time. Is becomes a Health and Saftey issue to let children climb on furniture. If the young lady would have fallen off the chair the Mother would have been asking for the Managers head on the plate! WE who work in retail do not want have to deal with upset customers just as much as you do not want to be asked to leave the store.
