Yelp is not good for small business
I own a Flower Shop in Boston and 9 good reviews are filtered but the 2 bad ones remain. None of my good reviews are shown since I declined to advertise with them a year ago.

Yelp is not good for small business
I agree 100% with this review. I am a small business owner, and Yelp has contacted me several times to sign up for their $300 per month advertising. Every time I tell them I don't need to advertise, another one of my 5 star reviews gets filtered. They have only kept the 1 star reviews, one of which was written by one of my competitors, and the other one written by a customer I refused to treat for free. They finally convinced me to agree to a Yelp deal, from which they get 30% of the sales. After they contacted me last week to sell me advertising again and I turned them down again, two of my 5 star reviews got filtered. I couldn't believe it. Both of these reviews were written by people who purchased the Yelp deal from them directly. Yelp is a total scam and god help any business owner who refuses to buy advertising from them.

Don't believe anything on yelp
The very ugly truth about Yelp is that until you pay to advertise with them, all your positive reviews will be filtered. A few months ago we received a phone call from an employee at Yelp asking us to advertise with them. We declined their offer, it was going to cost us somewhere around $350 a month. The very next day ALL of out positive reviews were filtered and all of a sudden there were two one star, very negative reviews posted. Ther are scam artists and the site is completely fake, created to bully business owners into paying them for positive reviews. They did the very same thing to my friend who ownes a Pilates studio in Miami.

SCAM
We declined their offer to "allow" us to advertise on Yelp for $350 a month. The next day all of our five star reviews were gone and magically replaced with a horrific one star review. What can be done?? These are cyber crooks and must be stopped

Closed my account for no reason
I have been noticing a high number of "Closed Account" s on Yelp. And it dawned on me that it is a commercial site, and there might be censoring going on! Yelp benefits financially from the work of tens of thousands of free reviewers. I'd like to think their oppinions are shown, provided not profane! lol.

Closed my account for no reason
On Feb 13 2012 Yelp closed my account for no reason. They said I had multiple accounts, which I did not. I had given a bad review of a business and the week before he became a Yelp sponsor. I think that is why they closed my account. I only had one and when I E mailed them "which other account is mine" they ignored me. I then E mailed then and said they had made a mistake but was blown off. I finally E mailed them "can I open another account now that I have none?" Still no reply as they hide behind their computers and if someone pays them sponsorship money, the account that you have for a year is closed. Yelp is a scam run by cowards.

Online scam
Well, there has been a lot of publicity, negative almost all of it lately, about Yelp and that the fix is in. If you advertise there, your reviews are good, if you decline, the magic filter makes you a hero. Well, before the bad publicity came to light, I trusted them on a stereo store that I threw a LOT of money at, based on the Yelp reviews. Well after getting the rig home, and after paying about 4k on digital upgrades, i went back to Yelp reviews to see why everybody was so thrilled, and after i looked at the all but hidden filter bar, i see that there were more negative reviews that were filtered out than there were positive that were posted. This is fraudulent and dishonest, and I will never visit Yelp again, and truly hope that somebody instigates a law suit. They say they have a secret algorithm that is proprietary and refuse to give their formula. Well, from a consumer standpoint, when there are 18 reviews, 5 positive, 12 negative and one rather neutral, all the positive show, along with the neutral, but the negatives are all hidden, or rather, filtered. SCAM, so the so called service is based on revenue, not consumer opinion. So yes, after I spent beaucoup dollars on electronics, I spent ample more to fix the f'ups that the inferior, recommended store provided, while the negatives that would have made me skeptical were hidden from view. Yelp is shi+ and dead to me, period. Never again will I even look.

fraudsters! beware!
One of my customers wrote a negative review about me. He was really unpleasant to communicate with. I asked other customers to write good reviews, and they did. Yelp called me to ask to advertise. I did not agree. And then all my good reviews were deleted, or "filtered", as they called it. I will be contacting the FTC.

Closed Account
This was the email they decided to send me, after having an account for nearly 2 years, with a total of 42 reviews:
I'm writing to let you know about our Support team's decision to close your user account. Your account has been closed because of Terms of Service (http://www.yelp.com/static?p=tos) violations, including using your account for commercial or promotional purposes.
Please note that we do not provide further details on account closures.
The line of them saying that they don't provide further details on their decisions is absurd!
Things happen for a reason, I removed their app from my facebook page. All of my reviews were legit, as well as my account. But that's how they want to treat people, then so be it.

No good reviews!
They do not let the good reviews be posted! No one can actually say something nice, about a good experience they had with the company! Why there’s only the negativity?

Yelp scum
I had a bad review on my company from someone I never did any work for I told yelp I never did work for person and thought it was weird there would be a march review of a swimming pool company in New England only to be told by yelp they are keeping it. I later opened account and replied to it saying check out my a+ rating on the bbb where they qualify reviews only to have my review removed and my account closed which I noticed when I went on to review yelp itself.
