You're right. The problem is simple. You became a liability to the company, one they didn't want to afford.

Asking for a reasonable accommodation is fine, but you would need to submit paperwork from your Dr. stating that it is medically necessary. And in most cases, if you were that great of a worker, your supervisor would be more than happy to do what they could, even without the Dr.'s statement.

If you were ill and needed time off for recovery, you could've had your Dr. fill out FMLA paperwork and Wal-Mart would've had to give you the time off. FMLA was designed to protect people with medical conditions from losing their jobs. The fact that this didn't happen leads me to believe that you are probably a bitter ex-employee.

Squibs, I said some favorable things about Walmart. I was trying to be very fair.
We experienced the same thing here as trmn, but the two existing grocery stores fought back and beat Walmart at its own game. They got bigger and better and are now Walmart's toughest competitors. However, all privately owned businesses closed, but consumers have no one to blame but themselves. I feel guilty for not supporting my local businesses and falling for Walmart's artificially low prices. But there's no turning back.
As far as the bizarre clientele, I know exactly what trmn means. When the store first opened, it was very nice and had mostly local people working and shopping. I don't know where the people are coming from now, but it's not the same. However, trmn's store sounds much worse. Mine is not that bad.
Ellen, our fabric store closed a long time ago, and I'm not sure if Jo-Ann's is still around, but it's worth checking into. Purple fabric would work.
Brenda, I don't want to order something from some unknown company. There are purple tablecloths on eBay, too, but I don't want to get involved in that either.

Thud and Maui are correct. You are protected under FMLA, not verbal conversation. You need your doctor to fill out the paperwork and then you are protected. Be cautious and review the specifics, because if it is outside the FMLA protection, they can let you go. One of the first things an employment attorney will ask you is your FMLA status before considering the case. Once you say you are not protected, most won't take the case, without any other violations of your rights on record.
Venice, sorry to tell you that your partial lobotomy didn't work. And it looks like your other groupie is MIA but TMR is picking up the slack.

Slim:click "ignore" and done
Venice, like another commentor said "what would it matter as long as it is accurate". PS: anything Googled or copied will be in quotation marks. Mediocre attempt by you. SOME of us have working knowledge of life and some have life experience. And then there are people like you and your censors. Nice FAIL...

I wish you would ignore me. Whatever your obsession is, it isn't healthy.
So I guess I will have to ignore YOU or pay little heed to your nonsense. Now where was that 'ignore' button from Staples...

"I worked for you for nearly 10 years, was a salaried manager and was an outstanding associate"
That is what everyone who is fired claimed, in reality it is most likely that they were poor workers, took long breaks, chatted with their friends and did not help customers.
It is everyone's job to protect the assets of the company, obviously you picked and choose the job that you wanted so you got fired for not doing your job.
Your family only has to blame you for your job loss. Maybe when you grow up and stop acting like a 8 year old who thinks the world revolves around her you can try to get another job again.
You are not telling the truth here, you obviously got fired because every time they asked you to do something you said this is not my job, so when they said you are not a team player they were correct.
