Employment scam - Toronto Pathways

I feel terrible these people are praying on new immigrants; my family came here 60 years ago. Sadly, even as second generation Canadians, we can be duped too. Thanks so much to all of you for having the courage to make the journey and when times were bleek, you all made an effort to protect your new found neighbors by sharing your views. Thanks to all of you for saving a meeting scheduled on Monday which I just cancelled. Hopefully karma serves "susan" and "steven" a dose of time behind bars. Sorry this had to be part of your Canadian experience. Again my thanks and here is wishing all of you employment, legitimately, in the near future.

Employment scam - Toronto Pathways

To "The Fact Police"
I am not really sure what your motive(s) is/are, but I assume it is in good faith. Please find below a definition of the word "fraud" from a reputable dictionary:

1. deceit, trickery, sharp practice, or breach of confidence, perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage.
2. a particular instance of such deceit or trickery: mail fraud; election frauds.
3. any deception, trickery, or humbug: That diet book is a fraud and a waste of time.

Now, you be the judge of that! Please let us know if this is fraud or not! Thanks.

Thank you

Employment scam - Toronto Pathways

I have invited to second interview. During the interview I immediately found that it is a scam. When I received the call, the lady who called me never asked me what position I have applied or what position they have in their office. In the beginning it sounds there is an opening and they want to hire someone.
When he told my resume is selected out of hundreds I knew it is a bull shit. A good employer immediately goes right to the point and identifies what skills he/she is looking for. If your resume presents those skills he/she immediately asks about years of experience in each skill set.
Canadian employer Never asks about your personal situation like marital status. They never ask to bring a partner or spouse for the next interview. Toronto Patheways guys just need to put people on trap and rip them off.

The Fact Police,
Do you see any deceit or trick in their approach to offer you services and find you a job?! If so, then it is FRAUD!
Anyone else, do you guys think this is fraud or not?
The Fact Police, I have no animosity with anyone, I just want to clarify the fact that they are not offering any services to you and me in good faith! That is all.

Also, may I ask if you have been called upon by this company to find you employment? Thanks.

Employment scam - Toronto Pathways

I received a phone call yesterday from a "Melanie" from "Pathway Communications" saying that they received my resume from another company (didn't say which one and I did ask) and would like me to come in today at 12pm. She left me the name Stephen MacDonald and the phone number (647) 288-4636, as well as their address (350 Bay Street, Suite 900). Skeptical at first, I searched the name of the company on Google as soon as I got off the phone. I then saw all of these scam notices, and that this "Stephen MacDonald" is an alias or isn't a real person.

I found the "RDG Careers" website. I watched a few of the videos, and they didn't really explain a lot. They never backed up any of the information mentioned, and didn't even express a success rate in a numerical form. A couple of the videos sounded like sob stories and sales pitches just to lure you into thinking that this is the best thing since sliced bread.

When I saw that they charge for their services on the scam reports, ranging from approximately $5, 000-$7, 500, alarm bells went off. Why should I have to pay for career services when I have been to other organizations who do it for free?

When I called the 647 number this morning, I got someone else who did not identify herself. Before I even had the chance to say "Hi" or "Hello, " I was put on hold for about 30 seconds. I asked for "Stephen MacDonald, " and she would not forward me to him. She asked me if I was confirming the interview at 12pm, and said that she'll tell "Stephen" that I'm coming. I called my current career service organization to check the scam, and they called back immediately confirming this and told me not to go. I am not even going to call "RDG Careers" back because of what they pull (other than my leg).

Funny how I am typing this right now when I might have been more than halfway to the location already, as someone else told me to go into the interview with an open mind and not mention anything about the scams. Boy am I glad I didn't.

Sorry - I'd also like to mention that "Pathway Communications" is a real company located in Markham.

I was looking for a job, not job services.

Employment scam - Toronto Pathways

I wish I had seen this board on these people a few months ago when they contacted me. Embarrassingly, I was swayed by their convincing words, and tone, amid my desperation. Alarm bells had rung when they were "interviewing" me, but being new to this country, I was naive enough to believe that thieves could not be so bare-faced! I actually have been to four (4) "meetings" with these people, and have turned over hard-earned money to them.

I hope this message reaches to others, before they are scammed too. These people seem to target new-comers, and I hope they get soon what is coming to them.

I am sooooo angry.

It's a good thing that one of my strong skills is research. I received a call from Susan this morning from Toronto Pathways and like other comments; I did not submit my resume to this organization. I also received the same pitch “the director wants to meet with you, and sees potential out of the hundreds of resumes they receive every day mine was selected...etc." When I asked the name of the director, Susan didn't respond and just said to ask for her, alarm bell #1. When she gave me the phone number 647.288.4636, alarm bell #3. I still booked an appointment for Monday Dec. 19 afternoon, albeit cautiously. As soon as I could I googled the company, but their website wasn't very informational like other recruiting websites and there was not phone number or address under contact information, alarm bell #4. I googled the company again and found this link, 5 STAR ALARM! I will not be wasting my time with this "organization" and I thank everyone for their comments.

It seems that this company likes to target new immigrants, people who were recently dismissed because of downsizing or other reasons, and new graduates.

After further investigation, I now understand why they want you to bring in a spouse or significant other for the second interview - they need a witness (second signature) for the contract before you are forced to pay them the $5, 000-$7, 500.

"Read my earlier posts in the discussion ignoramus"

I have read your earlier posts that you have been contacted too! Stating that you have been contacted too is just your cover, the truth of the matter is that you continually defend them. This response of yours and getting personal show who you are, I leave this to others to judge!

I come here to make my case against this company and I will pursue this as long as I can. What do you do here?! You are just here to read others' reports/comments and then start lecturing them what they do or do not understand! Your attitude is just like the American government's attitude, policing the world as if they own the whole universe; no wonder your ID is "The Fact Police"!!!

Employment scam - Toronto Pathways

Thank You to everyone here!! I too received a call from pathways saying my resume was picked out of 300 and that the director himself wanted to meet with me. I went for my 'interview' this morning and was told to come back next week with my spouse so we could discuss the job that was found for me! Amazing! I was also praised by Michael who said I have a great resume it is a surprise I don't have a job already with all the experience I have. I still couldn't figure out when or where I applied for a job through them. They must have some way of getting a hold of all the resumes posted on different web sites. Michael also told me that by applying to any of the jobs on workopolis or monster websites will never get me a job because they have screening processes when resumes come in. He said not to worry they will show me how to get past them. The one thing that made me think that this wasn't 'kosher' was when Michael said I need to come in next week for a second interview with my spouse; how many job placement agencies ask for your spouse to come in??? At any rate I will not be going in for the second interview thanks to everyone who had posted here!

They ask you to go there with your spouse because they want to use your spouse as a witness and sat that it was a well thought decision made by you should they end of in court of law.

The Fact Police,

Go ready my posts and yours, at not time I have insulted you, BUT you called me "ignoramus"! Thank you for that, but remember that people do judge others based on what they do or say!

Employment scam - Toronto Pathways

"Fact Police"... instead of telling everyone that they're using fraud the wrong way maybe you should tell them with your great brain what this really is.. because if it isn't fraud it's at the very least dishonest business practice.

I was told by "Steven" that he normally deals only with VPs and Execs but really liked my resume which was chosen by his assistant but I never sent them my resume and he claimed that they got my resume from Blackburn Agencies. I did get an email from Blackburn (which has no office or phone number and has only existed since nov 2011) but I did not send them my resume. SO how did they review my resume? they found it online and flagged me since I've been out of work for a number of months.

So to go back to the "Fact Police". If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem. Your choice.
