fast practise

I have a similar issue with this company, make a repair, charge the earth and create another issue and refuse to deal with the complaint.
Fantastic all singing all dancing website but without any real substance and buyer beware do not belong to any plumbing body either so do not have to answer to anyone to regulate .

Nightmare boiler repair - South London
I agree with the comments above. The engineer was initially highly plausible and helpful but tried to push an entirely new boiler on me at great expense, whilst claiming not to be able to make a very basic repair. When the repair was very easily completed by another engineer I complained. This went unanswered for an extended period and then I was sent a letter claiming I was lying about all particulars of my complaint. The way I was treated by the company was really shocking, overtly rude and (if I had the temperament to take my complaint further) also libelous.
I would avoid this company at all costs and would encourage others to leave feedback on sites like this to warn others.

fast practise

I agree about fast practices. An engineer came to fix a gas leak in our internal pipes. He first tracked down the leak, then isolated the boiler pipework so we could get our heating up and running, this took less than 30 mins and was what I had asked for. He then proceeded to spend 50 minutes 'thinking' about how to deal with the issue of the gas supply to our stove...and then told me it would be an extra 3-4hours work and about £500! I asked him to stop there. Total bill for initial work and "thinking": £162...I subsequently asked an independent corgi engineer to provide an estimate to run a new gas pipe to the stove, estimate £200, and in his opinion the initial work should not have taken more than 15 minutes.

Incorrect information on website

The information on the thames gas website is false. It says that they are open between 7am and 10pm but ALL the numbers on their website do not work. I have an urgent after-sales query. Horrific. I have contacted consumer advice.

Thamesgas.com Ltd AKA Boiler Breakdowns

We used them recently for our property in Harefield, they gave us a cost of £85 for every half hour. When they arrived mentioned that they think the APS needed replacing, I said ok then he said he did not have so needed to leave to buy from Greenford. He then disappeared for 1 hour 30 mins (£255) only to replace the part & say old boiler and it needed replacing for £2850 which I recently got done by a local company for £1350,

This company is a complete rip off, use at your peril.

Deliberately slow, unprofessional

I was not impressed with their professional competency and the way in which they deliberately took their time to make their assessment. I paid £200 (1.5hrs) for an assessment that could have taken half an hour and should have been 1/3 of the price. Uneasy sense of dishonesty, even the office staff on the phone were pushy and then rude when I queried the cost. Do not use Thames Gas

Unscrupulous Company - Thames Gas aka Boiler Breakdowns London Plumbing and Heating

Found these jokers on a local neighbourhood website only to learn they belonged to Thames Gas. They immediately charged my card with £60 ahead of the visit which already signals some trust issues - probably some customers refused to pay in the past after their appalling service (unlike Pimlico Plumbers who only charged after the repair has been completed).
The engineer was reasonably personable, however after spending an hour diagnosing the issue, he dashed off to a local depo to get a part. Unfortunately he missed the opening time so he called me to advise it would take him another hour to get the part from another depo which was still open. However, this would be charged as labour time and the bill would come to £650 made up of 3.5 hours of labour including travel time (£350 + VAT) and £196 + VAT for the part. I was absolutely shocked and called HQ straight away to complain. I demanded to see the invoice for the part but they argued it is company pricing and there's nothing they can do about it. I told them this was unacceptable practice and that I refuse to pay on this basis. They claimed the engineer would need to come back to reinstate the boiler to its original (dripping) position. I was left with no other option but to pay 1.5 hour labour (£180) for nothing. My partner talked to them as well but they were adamant. I tried to bargain with them and in the end they offered £440 plus VAT but at that point I was so upset that I just wanted them out and never to deal with them again.

The following day Pimlico Plumbers came on site. The part that needed replacement cost £11. Sadly they had to spend more time after the previous job was badly done, there was a broken plastic bit which was most likely damaged by the Thames Gas engineer. Pimlico also caps their travel time to 45 minutes even though our engineer spent 1.5 hour getting it.
DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THAMES GAS - BOILER REPAIR BREAKDOWNS. They are dishonest, not transparent and will cost you a lot of money. I am thinking of reporting them to a consumer protection agency so they can be properly investigated.

Unscrupulous - Opportunistic - Disingenious

I agree with everything the previous reviewer has said. Never use this company, Plumb London or South London Plumbing (both part of the group).

I ended up getting charged around £650 to replace a tap!

The company decided that my current tap was not fixible and had to be replaced. I little choice but to replace it on that day. They knew this completely took advantage of that situation. When I complained, it was pointed out that it was my fault for not getting two or three companies out.

I was given a (ridiculous) price and continually told that time is of the essence because they were charging £48 per half hour. This, it turns out, is academic because they do not charge time and materials despite what they say up front - they appear to charge whatever they can get away with. Even when it was aparent that the cost would be significantly less than the estimates, Thames Gas decided that the hundreds of pounds difference should rest with them.

Similar to the last reviewer, post-event they point-blank avoid transparency. I asked to understand the charges as I believed I could have been overcharged. They are not even prepared to consider explaining how they're prices were calculate - all they care about is talking over you to get you to confirm that you agreed.

In my experience, this company has it both ways on everything and operates in a completely unethical (possibly illegal?) manner. I completely accept that I am not without blame in this fiasco. However, I was given little choice in an extremely stressful situation. This company will do nothing to protect customers interests and will knowingly and deliberately overcharge.

A side note to give a flavour of how this company operates. I was told I needed a new part and that I had to pay £300 so that it would be held for me. I then received a phone call 30 mins later saying the part I wanted (and had reserved) was no longer in stock and "more bad news" (their words) the only other part was even more expensive.

As with the reviewer above, I too intend to report this company to the appropriate organisation (they are not members of any trade associations - something else I should have checked in advance.
