scam

To ex employ, i am a current full time employee and have worked for them for 3 years. I can tell you that no full time employee(and there are many) have ever left the company, as it is professionally run, licensed Travel Agents in QLD and NSW, members of the Travel Compensation Fund and a great company to work for. You have obviously have sour grapes and another agenda, and it is 100% sure that you would have been sacked because of your attitude and lack of sales ability. I have personally seen the testimonials from hundreds of happy clients, its just a few that are unhappy that put an unwarranted shadow on this fantastic company. You can't please everyone. Shame on you.

You are all so fucking dumb! Do your research people! Or how about you actually listen to what the booking agents are telling you on the phone! It is a fabulous offer! It says in the comprehensive package that the Airline taxes may vary from each Airline and each State. Sunset Travel is not a scam whatsoever! The booking agents are very busy people! The booking agents explain the accommodation numerous times on the phone.
Get a grip people!

No, I don't work for Sunset Travel, I am a happy customer.
If Sunset Travel was a 'dead set scam' they wouldn't have their travel agent license number and wouldn't be registered.
Fair Trading have checked over Sunset Travel and they say it is a legitimate company.
Stupid people.

scam

Oh this makes me feel sick reading this, i have also been scammed. Stupid stupid stupid me!! i signed up to it doing it as a surprise for my husband and ended up with a $2500 debt, a right surprise for the both of us! I have reported it to the QLD Office of Fair Trading and also ACCC. I hope they get what is coming to them, i read the terms and conditions. They offer return airfares at no cost, with the provision that you have to book 7 nights accommodation thats fine, I agreed to it all good...did some further investigations, yeah right the friggin airfare price is included in the charges of the accommodation which is charged on a 100% markup of the regular hotel rate, I understand they have to recoup the money of the airfares somewhere but a 100% mark-up! GET REAL! I was still in the cooling off period of my contract also and guess what Georgina is always busy and will NEVER ring back, well guess what Georgina and co, you have been busted and ACCC will be knocking on your door VERY SOON! I dont know how people like you can sleep at night, knowing you are ripping innocent people off. People I beg of you all, if you have been treated badly, report it to the office of fair trading and ACCC do not hesitate it may help one more person becoming a victim and losing money like we did also!

I have received periodic calls from these guy for a few years now. Same deal. They tell me my friend recommended them (and he doesn't, he got scammed too) and they do their sales pitch. Each time I ask for my name to be removed from their database they say sure yet I still get these calls. Today it was Sammy, a nice sales person until I explained my experiences with them and before I finished requesting my name to again be removed from their database she hung up on me mid sentence. So I called them back and spoke to another nice person who apologized and then removed me from their database. I still expect to get a call in 6 - 12 months...

scam

I was assured in two seperate phone calls that it was not compulsory to book accomodation at all to use the flight vouchers. I was also told that I would receive 4 flight vouchers but only received 2. It took two months to receive anything in the mail after I paid and I complained immediately on receiving it. They told me that the 10 day cooling off period had expired even though the information package took 2 months to get to me. To use the package I must spend at least $1000 each time. It's robbery. They say unrealistic things like their "hands are tied". The company is unethical and dishonest. I will never use the product they gave me as I will never deal with the company. They have theived off me as far as I'm concerned.

I'm curious. Why would somebody who has only good things to say about Sunset Travel look up a scam web site in the first place? When I get good service from a shop, I certainly don't think to look them up on a scam site. So, all you "happy customers" obviously have interests in some way in Sunset Travel. I'm afraid your word has no logical credibility. The alternate evidence is overwhelming and far more believable. For every complaint reported there are many more not reported. This company is a shonk and good people pay for it.

As the Manager of Sunset Travel. I am concerned (and somewhat saddened) to read such statements made on a website like this.

As a fully licensed Travel Agency, it's true that we must comply to the Australian Consumer Law in regards to how we sell our product (Flights and Accommodation) and deal with Complaints.

As a result of our Complete Compliance, we have a very good business relationship with the Justice Department (Office of Fair Trading, Consumer Affairs, ACCC) and its affiliates.

If you are outside your 10 day cooling off period and no longer want your package, under the Law Sunset Travel is not required to give you a refund, if it has complied to the Law.

It is considered a change of mind, under the Law.

If small businesses gave refunds to every purchaser that had a change of heart, it would cause small businesses to go under and with the loss of jobs, ruin the economy.

It is with this mind, that the Australian Consumer Law covers small businesses like Sunset Travel.

If you are inside your 10 day cooling off period and you no longer wish to purchase your package, then you are entitled to cancel by contacting Sunset Travel and going through the Complaints Department accordingly for a refund.

Whilst all individual situations are different, I am disappointed with those who have been denied under the Law (and by the Office of Fair Trading) have taken their concerns to a website like this, not only making derogative comments about our companies legitimacy, but libellous opinions about its employees and Management.

I recommend to each and every one of you with concerns, to deal with those in the appropriate manner by contacting Sunset Travel and it's Management on [email protected]

We look forward to assisting you.

Mr Anonymous Manager. When I received your product it was completely different to the one I purchased. I was conned and/or lied to. That is a fact. I also complained well within this overly important 10 day period that you're grasping as your saviour. I too am "somewhat saddened" that you are more "concerned" about the negative statements then what you are in conducting an ethical business. It is very easy to not get bad feedback. Just do the right thing.

To the manager. Don't you realise that your clients have contacted your business many times and haven't received any logical and fair outcome. Fair Trading and comment pages like this is all that's left to share the emmence frustration that your clients feel. Going back to your company is a waste of time. Maybe instead of writing your defensive letters, you could spend some time on resolving the issues. And trying to shift fault by blaming competitors & ex employees shows an underlining guilt. Be professional...don't blame...resolve.

BS company, using innocent victims to target their friends and family for their own profit and you get nothing in return! Another "pyramid scheme" Accommodation prices are almost DOUBLE what you would pay if you go it alone, they NEVER return calls or emails and obviously make their money when people get sick and tired of dealing with them and don't redeem their flights! Stupid woman that conned me into it over the phone assured me I could use the air tickets without accommodation, when I asked to see something, paperwork etc she couldn't give me anything until I paid for it! STUPID ME!! Warning to others - AVOID SUNSET TRAVEL LIKE THE PLAGUE THAT THEY ARE! Lucky I didn't let her bully me into buying more than ONE pack!!!

scam

This agent contacted me 5 days ago and I agreed to a package, but they still haven't debited my credit card! Is this because they are waiting for the 10 day cooling off period and the fact that I haven't opened my email with the supposed accommodation vouchers, and therefor can't actually charge me for anything legally until I do. They are very sneaky. Alarm bells everywhere with this company. Dodge blurry pictures on the website are a giveaway. I have never seen a reputable manager sign off with nothing more than "manager". Give us your name, manager, or should I say your real name! To all reading this, alert as many people as you can, that this is a scam.

Dear MBluebell regardless of whether you open your email or not you still gave them your credit card details!!! They can legally do what they like with them now providing they are used only to purchase this product you agreed to. Seriously you are stupid and deserve to be ripped off!!!

scam

Intellectualgiant, I am flattered that the reason you joined this discussion was to point out that I am stupid. The complaints board is designed to be constructive in helping people, and you are not being helpful. It was my bank who advised me to not open my email, and therefore I would have a 90 day period in which I could dispute a purchase that I had received nothing for. If you like I can give you their number, and you can ring and tell them that they are stupid also. But luckily I won't have to dispute anything because I was SMART enough to block my card before it was debited. Similar to the message I have just sent you, I am still waiting for you, opps, I mean them, to ring and tell me my card has been declined, just like any other reputable business would. I look forward to any other thoughts you may have on this matter.

DO NOT BE A VICTIM TO SUNSET TRAVEL

HAVE YOU BEEN CONNED?????

They boast they have over 6000 members but I belive the better term is 6000 VICTIMS

By signing up members for the cost of a phonecall they already have made a minimum of $228.85 x 6000 = $1, 369, 156.50 this does not include the money if you start booking accomodation and airfares through them
Noone has to use the vouchers they purchased and they have made all this money so of course they dont care if you redeem your vouchers.
Once you start to make a booking you will realise you are better off now to lose your $228.85 than spend thousands of dollars just to redeem the cheap airfare tickets you purchased.

Dont fall into this trap
PLEASE READ THIS IT IS IMPORTANT

The airfare tickets will cost you Thousands of dollars.

The Sunset Travel Telemarketer will offer you a choice of 2 packages

1} 4 return flights to anywhere in Australia or New Zealand for $228.85.
2) 10 return Flights to anywhere in Australia or New Zealand for $445.00

Sounding good isnt it!!!

They also tell you there are no block out periods when you can travel, you can transer them to give to family and friends, make great gifts, you can use these airfares in a 2 year period, all you need to do is book 7 nights accomodation

This sounds Great !!!! ! You want this package maybe even 2
The sunset travel telemarketer also tells you if you email us a list of family and friends contact details and they also purchase a package we will send you complimentary flights
OMG this is too good to be true yes you want all your family and friends to take advantage of this great offer

Now they have sucked you in and you give them your credit card details and you get a email confirmation following day

Now here is the catch This is the info they do not tell you before you give them your personal details and credit card details you read this in the email

with every 2 air tickets redeemed you MUST book a minumum of 7 nights Accomodation with the minimum starting price of $75 per person per night its not just 7 nights accomodation for all the air fare tickets you have purchased like they tell you on the phone
They also do not tell you about Agency booking fee $80 Luggage fee $18.80
Credit card fee $7.70 and Airport tax Fees which is 11% of total cost of flights

So now this cheap airfare for 2 has now cost you over a minimum of $1,200 staying in a cheap hotel that you may not have needed to book if you were visting family or friends

In the terms and conditions in clause 5 it states travel under this program is subject to availabilty limited to school and public holidays and sport event periods where surchages and seasonal tarriffs will apply. Block out periods may also apply.
Yet they tell you there are no block out periods What a Joke!!!

Wait there is more
Remember they told you you can fly anywhere in Australia
Wrong again
Depending on your origin depends where you can travel so example you live in Melbourne and you want to fly to Cairns your airfare ticket will only get you to Brisbane you need to pay the extra airfare from Brisbane to Cairns

So As you can see this deal now does not sound as great as the telemarketer convinced you of.
THEY MISLED THE MEMBERS THEY HAVE

If you have been contacted by Sunset Travel I highly recommend you contact the ACCC and cancel your credit card if still in the 10 day cooling off period. They indicate they have over 6000 members but its seems they have 6000 VICTIMS who didnt know how to get out of this deal.
They dont care if you use your vouchers as they make money either way just by taking your $228.85 or better still $445 now times either one by 6000
$228.85 x 6000 = $1, 369, 156.50 not bad ha

Also keep in mind when this company goes bust your vouchers will have no value so thinking you have 2 years to use them is truly worthless but they will have their $1.369.156.50 and growing

CONTACT THE ACCC the more complaints they get the quicker the investigation will begin and finally shut this business down

SUNSET TRAVEL ILLEGITIMATE

I found the 4x$25 return flight voucher on EBAY and was sucked in. A couple of days later I received an email from EBAY stating that they had removed the item and that it was now null and void for some mysterious reason. It turns out EBAY wasn't allowed to tell me why but it rang a few alarm bells, especially when the email said I didn't have to complete the transaction. Too late! I paid them.

So I emailed Georgina Day at Sunset Travel to ask why it has been pulled from EBAY. She instantly replied and gave me some nonsensical reason that I wanted to believe as the deal is so good but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being scammed. Wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, I went ahead with holiday planning and had a few questions for them. No reply. Days later, still no reply. It made me suspicious that this Georgina character contacted me almost immediately when I was about to ask for a refund but when I ask for help planning my holiday I get no response.

It was then that I looked for others who had reviewed the Sunset Travel agency and the list of complaints was enormous. So now I have been in touch with PayPal and EBAY and they are processing my refund as it is less than 45 days since the item was purchased.

I also think it's worth mentioning the amount of times their website tells you they are a legitimate travel agency with a licence number and everything. Why would a legitimate travel agent need to go on and on about that? I've never noticed Flight Centre or Harvey World Travel talk about how legitimate they are!

Anyway, I'm not sure how they work but thanks for the comments on this site - they have helped make me a very informed decision.
