Continue to deduct money after cancellation letter
My girlfriend and I signed up and were going to Planet for 6 months at the Glen Burnie location in Maryland. The place is in ok shape but could be kept cleaner and needs some maintenance on the machines. There were at least 6 machines out of order for two months. Not sure if they were waiting for parts.
Problem is,
Our relationship ended and I did not want to keep bumping into my ex-gf so I went in to the Planet counter person and told him I wanted to cancel my membership. He was busy on the phone. I told him I could wait until he was finished. He handed me a pen and paper then told me to put my name, address and phone number down. I did this and he said he would take care of it.
Three months went by and the bills kept coming. I thought it just took a few cycles for them to stop the billing. I called them about it but they said I had to go online and send "Corporate" my complaint about the bills that kept coming. I sent a few emails and eventually I received a phone call telling me that they had no info stating that I had cancelled my membership and that I would have to pay the entire amount. I told them that it was not my fault and that I refused to pay it.
Well, in another month I received a pink notice that was from a collection agency. Now the bill was up to $120.00 plus other fees.
I contacted them and I told them I had no intention to pay for it and why. They said it was already put against my credit report. Personally, I do not care what happens here I am not paying it. I told them to take me to court. She laughed and said well its on YOUR credit Report.
I am not at fault and feel this is very un-professional. Even now that my other gym (SNAP Fitness) has closed in my neighborhood I want to go to Planet because its closer and cheaper but I refuse to eat my words so I am going to a place that costs more.
I am not backing down. SNAP is the cleanest and best kept gym I have been to in Maryland.
- Spoke to Megan on April 6th 2011.
- Megan said the balance due is $120.00 after she waives the late fees but she is not waving the monthly fees.

Is the general manager and he was un-available at time of call..

The experience has ultimately become a frustrating one rather than relaxing

Rude staff and manger!
Worst experience ever. My girlfriend and I joined the gym a few weeks ago. We would go early in the morning work out and then shower together. From day one we received dirty looks from the staff and others because we are a gay couple. A few days ago we received a call from the general manager Rebecca saying that she received numerous complaints that we were showering together. I said that we had. At the time did not see any harm in it because in a lot of gyms including the YMCA everyone showers together. She pointed out that there were members a young as 12 years old. I replied that I understood her point and that we would not shower together anymore. I also explained to her that there was never any inappropriate behavior in the shower as well as never any public display of affection. Not even hand holding. We simply worked out showered and got dressed. That was not good enough. We both have been kicked out of the gym. I feel as though we have been discriminated against. Planet Fitness has a judgement free motto. I guess this only applies if you are not gay.
If it was such an issue that we were showering together it should have been addressed after the first complaint. Not three weeks later.

Very poor service
Indeed, one should not join a gym just because of the cost. Is the gym clean? Is the staf friendly? Do the trainers actually know anything about health and fitness?? (I have a masters in health & wellness.) $10 per month sounds good, but, don't they make you sign a one year contract and pay an "annual maintenance" fee??? Anyway, before you join a gym, find out from otheres where they go and what they like, and tour them all. I work at a Snap Fitness and although we don't have all the equipment or space of a mega-gym, I have to say ours is one of the cleanest gyms around.

Awful place
I go to the Cincinnati Planet Fitness locations and not sure where the negativity is coming from. Great price, nice people, great machines, clean new locker rooms, great tanning, massage chairs. Chill out America. Maybe in different cities some bad employees get hired but from what I have seen in Cincinnati is top notch...also an A rating from BBB backs that up.

Took advantage of charging me for membership while I am getting treatment
I have cancelled my membership at this gym over two years ago, because I was injured, and needed to get a back surgery. I am almost disabled, and I stay at home most of the time. Only now I found out that they still have been charging me for these two years. I called them to complaint, but each time they are telling me that they will call back. Never happened. I am not able to go there to argue.
