dishones attitude to customers, danger situation with the gas tank and no information
DO NOT USE MODERN GAS – this is very dishonest company!!!
First of all the prices for their services depend on city you live in. Secondary – for the new customer they have one price and for the old – another and higher. This is dishonest I was a customer of this company for a very long time and each time they charged me more and more and never did an offer.
But the main problem was when I filled up my gas tank for $500 and after two weeks its became empty. When I called them their staff refused me in a refill unless I paid $650 as for emergency.
Later, when I wanted to change the company the large whose was discovered in my gas tank. The company did nothing with it, and didn’t make for me any recover.
I hope my message will help to other people to stay away from this awful company!

Modern Gas - Stay Clear - Bad News
Do yourself a BIG FAVOR and stay clear of Modern Gas. I was a customer for over 10 years and when we had a leak in our propane and called for an Emergency delivery they said they were booked Friday, Saturday and don't work on Sunday, even though they advertise 24 hour service and 7 days a week. They also charge a $250 emergency delivery fee.
It took them 4 days to get a truck to my house and then the driver said my driveway was too icy so no delivery. Another company came the next day with no problems.
When I called the nasty old lady answering the phone actually yelled at me. Believe me, you do not need this BS.

Dishonest Company
I have a summer place in Pa. and Modern Gas fills my propane tank once a year usually in Feb,March, for the past number of years ( 5 - 10 ) I was paying 45-75 Dollars a year. The payments were for propane use and a service charge because I don't use enough of the propane in the tank. For my last statement in 2/16 I received a bill for 114 Dollars. I paid the bill in 3/16 a week later I received another bill for 64 Dollars I didn't think anything about it. It must be a mistake because I just paid a bill of 114 Dollars the week earlier.
In the middle of April I was able to get to my place in Pa. and I smelled propane, I called Modern Gas to let them know, They told me that I will be charged 90 Dollars an hr. if they send a technician out and the problem is with my equipment. I agree to the terms because I know the problem is not from my equipment because the tank is off and I smell propane. I also tell them that I received a bill for 64 Dollars by mistake . I just paid a bill for 114 Dollars in March. They tell me there is no mistake the 114 Dollar bill was because I called up for a special delivery . I ask who called ? Their response you called up. I replied I never called you. Their response you called and asked for a delivery.
I then ask What is this bill for 64 Dollars ? Their response that is a bill for your normal yearly delivery in March and for your propane use . I ask How could this be that you are saying that I called up for a special delivery in Feb and my normal yearly delivery was in March for 64 Dollars a month later ? I wasn`t even up at the summer place and certainly did not call you or use any propane.
They ask if I left the pilot on? I tell them No They ask if I left the heat on? I tell them No , I always turn the tank off every time I leave. Their response I was up here and I used the propane. They want me available that week to let the technician inside to test for the propane smell. I tell them I can`t make it because I am working, and I inquire why they would need to go inside? Their response,
They need someone to be there in case it is my equipment . They ask Does anybody else have keys that could let them in ? My response I am the only one with keys. They ask if anybody rents the place my response No. They ask when is the next time I can come up to Pa ? My response not for a couple of weeks I could come sometime in May. They again remind me of the 90 Dollar an hr. if the problem is with my equipment . I remind them again that I smell the propane and the tank is off . Their response someone will contact you by Friday. My response ok.
Friday comes and goes with No phone call, a couple of weeks goes by and I am able to go back up to Pa. ( 5 / 16 )There is a different propane tank and a receipt on my door that states: replaced tank found hole in bottom filled N/C. Ok I think everything is back to normal.
A week later I receive a bill for 68 dollars with a Finance charge and a Statement Fee . I call back Modern Gas and ask why am I still getting a bill ? Their response I used the propane .I tell them the tank had a leak and I wasn't even up at the summer place. Their response someone will get back to you. My response ok.
Couple weeks later ( 6 / 16 ) I receive another bill for 73 Dollars with another Finance Charge and Statement Fee. This time I call Modern Gas and ask for a supervisor and inquire why am I still getting this bill when I wasn't at the place and there was a leak in my tank ? Supervisor response Do you work for free ? I was puzzled and asked her if she could repeat herself ,again She replied Do you work for free ? My response No .
Supervisor response either do we...We had to send a truck with a technician over to your place to check your tank. My response yes and you found a leak. Supervisor yes we found a leak but we still had to pay the technician and gas for the truck Do you work for free ? My response No . Supervisor response either do we, also said I should be thankful cause they usually charge 90 Dollars to exchange a tank. My response the tank was leaking you should come out and change it. I am leasing this tank form you I pay a fee I do not own it. I ask How much is a new tank ? Supervisor response 280 Dollars .My response this tank is over 20 yrs. old I am sure with all the fees I paid over the years I have paid for a new tank and then some. Supervisor response we don't work for free .My response do not deliver to me anymore and come pick up your tank .
Bottom line is I am fortunate enough that if I pay the 65-75 dollars it is not going to hurt me the problem is there are other 100`s or 1000`s of customers of Modern Gas that are less fortunate and depend on Modern Gas for Fuel all year round, who have a lot higher bills then what I pay. I can`t imagine all the problems that customers of Modern Gas must face on a daily basis. .The company is very dishonest ,and they don't care....
If you can, try to look for a better company to get your fuel from. Do yourself a favor ......if they do it to me ( some one that doesn't need propane for year round service ) they can certainly do it to other customers more easily who depend on them year round .
