Battery Caused Classic Car Fire
Johnson Controls is a very large and successful company and a supplier of automobile manufacturers. I have never heard of a battery causing a fire unless it is shorted. The battery started your car and then shorted itself doesn't make sense.
Also, if your situation is an isolated case the way you suggested to the people at JCI, this problem shouldn't cause others alarm. Your only recourse if you are convinced is to sue JCI. I think they are confident they are not at fault, and the $500 was to get you to go away, not to keep them from paying the full amount.
