access denied despite debit card charged

Reply from SpeedDater Management:

This member was denied entry due a cumulation of;
a) A breach of the T&Cs regarding the SpeedDater guarantee
b) Complaints from several staff about behaviour at previous events and telephone conversations
c) A member complaint similar to staff reasons

Obviously we would not ban members without due reason. At any event/venue, management is well within their right to refuse entry to, or ask guests to leave at any point at their discretion. Although we are not obligated to do so, we stated on the night to this member that we would process a full refund his ticket payment in full on this occasion.

Please note - banning members is not the norm for our company. 99.99% of guests are great and it is a very rare occasion to be turned away!

Dear D,
I am sure you can appreciate that it is unacceptable to claim that members have complained and that your staff have complained and refusing to give any detail. There is no “privacy breach” in doing so as long as the alleged facts are not directly linked to any individual.

I infer from your previous answer that although members have allegedly repeatedly complained speeddater has found it convenient to continue charging my card and maintaining my account opened.
In fact my understanding is that the only reason why access was refused to us on 10/12/11 was related to that supposed “T&C breach” you keep referring to and is unrelated to any supposed complaint.

If remember correctly, this is “T&C breach” is coming from the fact that I have claimed a free session after having chosen not to tick anyone, regardless of your terms and conditions very few people read.
All the other details are pure imagination aiming at defending your position. The member of the security staff has clearly stated he could not reproach me with any wrong doing on the night.

We were particularly upset that you choose to charge the card before refusing access on the night without any comment.

Regarding the closing of my account, I did request indeed its closure on 21/10/12 (enclosed email). It appears that despite this request, the account has not been closed before 12/12/2011 upon reception of the below complaint (please refer to the enclosed email.)

A new account was then opened for the event to be attended by a different individual.

Regards

Dear B,

We are not obligated to pass on details of member (or staff) complaints simply because you have requested them. I’m sure you can understand a breach of privacy in doing so.

A combination of complaints from staff and members have cumulated in the result of us no longer wishing you to use our services. Please accept this decision. After the T&Cs breach you in fact asked us to close your account as you said you would never use the services again. You were very adamant about this. So it appears we have come to an agreement on the use of our services.

I consider this matter closed.

I can only agree as the same situation happened to me. The website claims you can attend a free speed dating event if you dont match anyone. Then they spy you during the session and claim that they have seen you giving your mobile number / card to the ladies and withdraw the offer. I am 25 and old enough to give my number to anyone I want. Just go for a competitor and avoid this rip off (I paid 23 quids to talk to a 6 ladies I was not attacted to and had to wait as there were twice more men than women during the session).

Reply from SpeedDater Management:

The above comment from Mikeee88 is clearly written by the member who has wrote the orginal complaint. We have over 25, 000 members come to our events every year - and we have pointed out a Guranatee T&Cs breach to only 4 members this whole year. This was in fact for messaging members through the website and NOT giving out mobile/business cards, so the above is an outright lie, clearly written by the revengeful member who posted the original complaint. The other 3 T&Cs breachers have in fact apologised, as they didn't read the full T&CS (http://www.speeddater.co.uk/static.php?html=guarantee). All 3 people continue to book with us - apart from the above member who is not welcome to at our choice. Also Mikeee88/Benj - your age alone does not give you the right to hand out your mobile number. If you are at an event which specifies "if you don't like anyone, come again free to ensure good value" I'm not sure why you would want want to claim a free go, but also give out your mobile number to people you supposedly don't like and don't want to see again? You can see why it doesn't make sense. I am happy to take on genuine feedback as I wish for SpeedDater to remain the market leader (as we have been for 10 years since we launched). However, the above feedback is an outright lie and it disgusts me that time has been taken to be deliberately spiteful and misleading.

Over charging

I went to one their events and got free access to the website, I noticed it was a recurring charge after 3 months so I cancelled it and have email proof that my account was closed and I cancelled the repeat billing. That was in Dec 11 now March all of a sudden Its started up again. Numerous phone calls later being told call back in an hour and sorry you cant have a refund, to now getting email responses ignoring the fact I cancelled in Dec and have proof, I am offered a month free after charging me illegally!! This company is a joke and I will be taking it further on principle alone.

Re: Over charging

A number of complaints have been posted on the internet against speeddater.co.uk.
The ICO has also been submitted formal complaints against this website.
This is currently investigated.

The company has a number of “tricks” to make you sign up when you are booking some events on their website. They then refuse to grant refunds.
