BAD workmanship could put you at risk

My Experience with General RV was not very good.

Found a trailer that I was looking for. It was a used trailer in good condition about 5 years old. In my 52 years of “RV-ING” I have much experience with RV's. Including repairing and Converting 2 Vans in the 60's , Rebuilt 2 trailers from the frame up and so much more. I am listing what I have done Just to let you know that I know about RV's.

I guess it is my fault for being swayed by the sales person to let them go thru it and pressure test it. They talked about how they would paint the tongue. Take care of and test every thing set it up for towing. This cost me over $700 extra but I thought that it would be a good to have the professionals go over it.

I was very disappointed in the work that was (or was not) done. I don't know where to start. I should have known right away when we were doing the out side walk around and one of the technicians told me to pull the gray water first then the black water. I think the look on my face told him that he was wrong but the other technician quickly corrected him. So we gave them the keys to our cars and told him that the equalizer hitch and friction sway bar was in the back.

They told us to look around there store and have a seat and they would let us know when it was hooked up and ready. About an hour later they told me that it was ready. Went out to the car and the equalizer bars were not hooked up. I contacted them and they told me that they would not fit properly. Sort of questioned this because previous owners had the same set up as I did you could see the marks from the original owners. However did not want to argue so went on my way. I pulled into a gas station to get gas and noticed water coming out of drain for fresh water tank. They did not put cap back on drain line. See picture. It is a good thing that I found this out before I took it out camping. I would not have been a happy camper.

WHERE IS THE CAP? WHERE IS THE PIN? THE PIN JUST WHERE THEY
LEFT IT

When I got home I went to disconnect the trailer and look what I found! No pin I towed it from Birch run to Westland with no pin. It was a good thing that it did not come loose. I just thought that they took care of every thing for me but I was wrong very wrong. After that I started looking closely at the work that they should have done. Noticed the sway bar was not adjusted properly as shown in instructions. See below. The instructions are printer on adjustment bar and they had manufactures written instructions.

They did adjust hitch it did need to be dropped, But they did not do it properly. Reversed bolts and did not put washers where they should have been. There are 2 sizes and types of bolts for a reason a long one and a short one. They reversed them. See picture.

Also you will notice that they did a bad paint job of the Tongue. And got over spray on the LP regulator. They could have at least taken a wire brush to it. Also many parts of the tongue were not painted at all.

Noticed that the stabilizer jacks were not lubricated at all this can be seen by the photo above with cobwebs on them.
Little things such as battery box tie down Twisted and I should feel good about your work?

I went inside and found water on the floor. This was from the sinks being filled with water and not drained.

Also found fault lights on the Refrigerator and hot water heater being left on and gas turned off.

I really feel that I would have been better off if I would have done the prep work my self seeing that I has to go over every thing that was done and correct many problems that was created by their technicians and it took my time to fix their mistakes. I am a field service engineer and make $145/Hr. This is the reason that I had them take care of this so I could work. How ever I spent my valuable time going over everything and not trusting anything that was done by General RV. I feel that in good conscience I could not recommend General RV to any one. My 11 year old grand son knows how to hook up a TT and he always checks the hitch pin. I will be publishing this on the internet but feel that others may want to know what type of work you do. And may not want to trust your RV and your life in your hands.

Thanks Don
