Credit Card

I just had a return and waited 2 weeks because my sister got me a pair of jeans on her credit card. I thought after waiting 2 whole weeks I would be able to just get cash back, being that there was literally no jeans that fit me correctly. So, the lady at the Dayton, Ohio store denied me cash so I got something I really didn't care for AND had to fork out some more cash for it. Also, there was a shirt that was on there and paid 34.99 for it, it was on sale for 19.99, she ALSO denied me the price difference! There's a lot of competition out there, Kohl's, with whom I'm NEVER EVER had a problem with a return OR with an item that I paid full price for then it went on sale...they gave me cash back for the price difference and it didn't matter how long it had been. Elder-Beerman will NEVER get my business again!!! The girls were extremely rude! Kohl's has all my business from now on. Elder-Beerman needs to change their ways! (or their employees) CUSTOMER COMES FIRST!!! Or guess what...you lose business! FYI this was the store located on Dorothy Lane in Kettering, OH.

Misleading return policy

On July 4th 2012 my mother in-law purchased two tech trek toys from the Elder- Beerman store in Huntington, WV. The toys were for my daughter’s birthday in September. At no time during check out was she informed there was only a 60 day return policy. Seeing as how Sept 8th (their party date) is after the 60 days, obviously she would have never purchased these items. She assumed she had 90 days to return. Upon first assembly of both toys we discovered they were both defective. As you can imagine our girls were very disappointed.
When I tried to return the toys with the original receipt to the store on 09/13/2012 I was rudely informed I was out of luck. The young women assisting me left me at the register while she went to speak with a manager about my situation. She then informed me that not only could I not have my cash back, but they would not give me store credit or do an even exchange for the same item. When I asked politely to speak with the manger she then told me that she was the manager. Obliviously something was a bit off, since she had just left me standing there while she went to ask her manager what to do. She told me her name was Cassandra Vance. Regardless of her employment status, she was very unprofessional.
Although it was 11 days over the limit, I feel I should have at least been offered store credit. Had I lied and said I didn’t have a receipt, I would have been given store credit, explain the logic in that? My mother in-law and I have been faithful patrons of this store and many other Elder- Beerman and Bon Ton stores, however we will not be returning. I understand there are rules and conditions. Had I been treated with a modicum of respect, I would have accepted the $50 loss, without changing my view on shopping at this and other Elder -Beerman stores.

sales clerks

I WAS IN THE ELDER BEERMAN A COUPLE WEEKS AGO WITH A FRIEND OF MINE AND WHILE WE WERE SHOPPING A COUPLE OF THE SALES GIRLS WERE STANDING BEHIND THE MAKE UP COUNTER TALKING ABOUT ONE OF
US AND MY FRIEND OVER HEARD THEM SAY MY NAME I THINK ONE OF THEM IS NAMED CONNIE BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT THE OTHER ONES NAME IS. I HAVE BEEN SHOPPING AT THIS STORE FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS BUT I WILL NO LONGER BE GOING IN THERE AND I DO THINK ITS VERY RUDE AND VERY UN PROFESSIONAL FOR EMPLOYES TO STAND BEHIND A COUNTER AND TALK ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS IF IT WASNT FOR US THEY WOULDNT EVEN HAVE A JOB.I HAVE ALSO INFORMED ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY ALSO SO THEY NO LONGER SHOP AT THIS STORE EITHER.

Free Gift w/Purchase

In January of 2014 I placed an order on Elder Beerman's website for a 11 pc cookware set which advertised a FREE 3-pc set offer when you made your purchase. Set was delivered, but never received the free items. Called back to see why we never received the free items and customer svc rep. indicated it was still available and they would ship it out immediately. 3 weeks later, still nothing received. Called back again as to why I hadn't received it. THIS time representative indicated that in SMALL lettering during my initial order I didn't "check" box to receive free gift! (Then why wasn't this mentioned the last time I called)? Seems like every time I contacted them I got a different story. Ad was VERY misleading to begin with. BUYER BEWARE! IF IT INDICATES FREE GIFT BETTER READ THE FINE PRINT!! No more orders for me from this company!!

Security tags

I had shopped Elder Beermans for a dress to wear to a wedding and out of town wedding. When we checked in to hotel to get ready , On the way down to wedding my husband said what is hanging off your dress OMG it was the security tag I was in schock could not go in this dress but when I returned it to the store with my bank statement was not good enough she was rude said I could never bring anything back with out a recipt. First of all my bank statement clearly had it on it and I would not be taking it back if they would of been doing their job in the first place. They do not have to worry I will never shop there again as my freinds and family!!!!!!!!

No more shoes

Upon returning a pair of tennis shoes that were defective I Informed two young clerks that I would like to exchange them for another kind (the same brand). Both at the clerks look at the shoes and on the top of the shoe (all white) there was a gap between the with mesh and the seam if the shoe it was not wear and tear and they both said it looked very defective. I brought the other shoes that I chose up to the counter. The store had a better sale on the ones that I was returning versus the pair I was exchanging amd I already knew that I would be charged a little more (20-25 dollars) they were still the same brand name. One of the young clerks said well there is some dirt on the bottom and I need to call my manager "Beth." I said "yes" they still have the tag on them and I wore them in the garage before I noticed the defect and I only had them for two days. And one of those days it rained so much nobody was walking outside. The manager "Beth" arrived on the scene she did not introduce herself or even ask me what the problem was she listened only to the clerk. There were other buyers standing at the register and the manger immediately and rudely replied" well, there is dirt on the bottom of these shoes and have been walked in" I said I walked in them in the garage and had them on for one day before noticing the defect" she then loudly and rudely said what is she trying to exchange them for? I said "the green ones are on sale and the pink ones cost a little more." The clerk said these and pointed to the other shoebox and the manager ignored me or didn't care to hear me. The clerk and the manager checked the price and loudly stated " These cost more we can't exchange them for the same price, I said, "I know I was going to pay the difference! At this point I felt so disrespected and had enough of them thinking I was trying to pull one over on them for a pair of $45 dollar shoes. The very sad past for them is that I was one of their best customers yet, this manager failed to look at my account t first. I grabbed my shoebox and my receipts and said " I will just keep these shoes and will not be back," she then tried to say ma'am, ma'am...I did not look back and won.t be back, I will spend the extra money to drive to dayton or columbus. Elder Beerman what happened to good, professional customer service. Especially, those who have been with you for over a decade?

Pretty bad when you need to buy makeup and they tell you that they are on break. And the tell you they half to go pick up there lunch I'm done.......

Clinique exchange

I'll start off by saying I worked for this company a year in a half and was always told IT WAS POLICY that even if a customer brought back an EMPTY JAR of cream or makeup of any kind , we absolutely have to take it back and give them either store credit or an exchange . I have 3 makeup items I bought a while ago that I never cared for and barely used , I never got around to exchange it and I lost my reciept . I called to ask an old friend who still works there if I would be able to come exchange for another product and the managers and the Clinique counter manager Joyce had a pow wow about me saying UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES can I bring in and exchange my items ? I think they mentioned it could be Gratis, which regardless that is something you EARN for working there and I have the right to exchange for what I want if they sent me wrong product ... however it is not . It's makeup I had paid for. I just find it very unprofessional and sad that women so much older than me are filled with so much drama and hate . Very unprofessional and I will be taking this up with higher ups. Very offended
