vacation package

Thanks for all the great comments folks. I was contacted last week by Cheryl at Discount World Travel. She told me that I was one of 50 winners from a 1000 for an 11-day vacation. It started with that I had 3 years to travel and there were no restrictions. The trips included Disney or Universal for 5-day and 4-nights and VIP tickets to either Disney or Universal -- $250 value. Also a 3-day Daytona/Cocoa Beach, or Ft. Lauderdale Ocean front hotel (Radisson, Sheraton, or Marriott). Then I would get a Celebration Cruise for 3-day/2-nights, in a 1st class stateroom to the Bahamas. Also, it included staying at the Hacienda in Puerto Vallarta or the Laguna in Cancun, Mexico. All that for $349 pp. After some hesitation, I was put on hold and then came the "Manager." He got the deal down to $198 pp minus the Mexico trips. They were willing to work out a payment arrangement with me as well. I told them that I would have to speak with my husband regarding it. The Manager told me that he understood my hesitation, but the credit card would guarantee any fraudulent charges. I thanked them for taking their time with me, but I couldn't make a decision like that until I spoke with my husband. My hubby and I actually thought about it, but then we figured it was too good to be true! After reading all of your comments we are certainly glad that we didn't give our credit card number. Lesson learned...don't fill out forms for free vacations, and certainly don't give out your credit card number for someone calling you!

vacation package

We just had discount world travel call saying we won a 11-day vacation from a drawing that I took part in at a Bridal Show. It's really sad when people try to take advantage of people in the simplest setting. When my best friend and I were at the table signing up it seemed like a promotion from a travel company to promote business to couples looking to plan your honeymoon. I have been to a few others and have one some nice prizes that are just that, prizes from actual companies trying to get marketing for a product/service/business. I don't know who I am more upset with, this company for trying to take advantage of a situation or the fact that at these shows and marathons and what not are leaking information to these companies and letting them in the door. I read in a previous comment that these people tried sucking people in through a marathon. Now that's just really sad, what is wrong with people. I received a phone call earlier today saying we won a vacation through a different business (culinarybrides.com) and was actually really excited at first because I thought I won something from the bridal show.. Luckily after researching it, I realized it was a scam, and was ready for this next call with these jerks.

vacation package

My friend and i both signed up at festival in ontario and months later got multiple calls from this company. After finally answering the guy on the phone told me how i had won a dream vacation for 18 days. However, i was told i would have to pay 698$$ is "promotional fees". Obviously i was sceptical because i am not the type to go handing my credit card number out to random companies over the phone. I told the man i was at the gym and couldn't give him my credit card information without looking into it further. He then forwarded me to another man who was extremely rude and told me i had to do it right this minute or i would loose out. Seeing as i did not want to give out my information right away he was extremely pissed off and hung up. NOTE TO EVERYONE, DO NOTTTTTT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE, THEY ARE ALL SCAMMERS, AND YOU WILL GET SCREWED OVER.

vacation package

I had a call 2 days ago from a company called "my tropical getaways" and was told me that I won a 5 trips from the contest that I've entered at the BC home and garden show. The girl first came on the phone named "laura" congratulate me and quickly went over info of 5 trips in total. I was rushed by the girl to decide if I want to take the free prize, otherwise the opportunity will be going to the next person. The information that Laura gave me over the phone was the same as what I've put down on one of the draws, and that's why I thought I really won a a trip from the one show. At the very end of the conversation, She said that the trips included everything except the port fee and taxes. However, there is an administration fee which is $349/person for the first 2 travellers, and they need to charge $698 US in total. When I asked her further information about the administrative fee, a guy named "Mike Moyer" came on the phone. I asked him how do I know this is not a scam call. He then gave me an an email address to check. I went to http://www.mytropicalgetaways.com/, the address matches the info that was given by Laura . I have never thought of the website can be a scam at that time. Mike Moyer said I have to pay them $698 in order to secure the prize otherwise they will have to give it to someone else. I was overwhelmed and I gave him my credit info to secure the package. Then I was transferred to another person who does the verification process. At the end of the call, she gave me the contract no and customer service number at the end in case I need further assistance. I told my friends around the whole thing and they told me I was scammed. I tried to call them back at (954)921-2280. My called was directed to voice mail belongs to "Discount World Vacations". The name of the company doesn't match what I was told my Mike Moyer, but the voice of the mailbox was Mike Moyer. I am sure it was the same guys I was talking to earlier. I still left messages for them to call me back. I then call my credit card centre to inform about this fraud transaction. Mike Moyer called me the following day and inquired the reason about cancelling the package . I told them I am not interested in the package anymore and need him to reverse the claim. I told him it's not right to pay for something that I won. Mike Moyer then said I did't win a prize, I was just 1 of the 50 people chosen for this package. I told him that he's a liar. I was told by somebody that I won the contest that I've entered at the home show, and now you are saying something different. He is a total scammer!!! I hope I've read all theses comments before I received the scammer calls.

Same Problem from Adventure show in February in Toronto

Wow...this is exactly the way my phone call just went. I was just starting to get excited about it and getting over my distrust when they asked for a credit card number and it became a pressure tactic. If you win something, why is there money involved?
The story was exactly the same but all the names were different. That should be a warning shot right there. The manger's name in my call was Bilal Elamin. The initial contact name was Ricky Ferguson. Not that it means anything.
An msn email address was also a little suspicious. You would think a vacation company would have their own domain name...although that's not too hard to set up but could be traced more easily back to an individual. MSN is more anonymous.

Hello folks,

I am an average ordinary guy who just bought into this promotional package. Clearly, it is a promotional package that will be inevitably subject to random taxes, fees, etc. I am sure there will be difficulties finding a room despite the "no blackout" dates option. I am also certain sitting through those annoying time-share seminars with pushy salespeople will be no fun at all. But you know what? Its still a decent deal! Every single comment on this thread is written by people making ignorant, unwarranted assumptions, based on the fact that they tried to "trick" you, by, for example, not telling you about airfare costs, or whatever. C'mon people, if you have actually tried to use these passes and have been blatantly defrauded, then by all means post. But otherwise, please keep your personal OPINIONS to yourself. Can we please try to maintain some small level of collective intelligence on the internet? AND WHY DOES EVERYBODY HAVE TO YELL ALL THE TIME???

Hi Folks,
After a week of investigation by credit card company, they confirmed that this company has done many fraud transactions in the past by offering packages don't even exist. Hopefully, people will be more aware of the scam company by putting more posting here.

Exotic Vacation Package

My Girlfriend received a call from these people today saying that she "won" an exotic vacation package for 18 days because we filled out something at the Toronto Sportsmen's Show on the weekend. All she needed to do was pay the $698 on her credit card and she could claim her "prize" for use anytime in the next 3 years. Oh ya, she could bring another couple for free! Giddy up! After telling them that she would have to talk to me first, they put the "manager" on who started with the pressure tactics. She said no but they said they would call her back tonight at 8. It is either a scam or timeshares but I have been to timeshare things before and this doesn't seem to fit. I was reading "Daniel, Daniel Daniel's" comments below... seems to me he is working for the company! NEVER EVER EVER give your credit card information to an unsolicited caller, emailer, whatever! Basic common sense.

I keep reading "scam" by people who only got as far as the phone call. Is there somebody out there who has gone further than the phone call and was actually scammed??? I've been offered this for $298, with bogo flight vouchers, and it was disclosed I was to pay port fees, room taxes, etc, etc. along with having to sit in on one of their presentations in Orlando. I said I had to think about it and was told no problem they'll phone back tomorrow. I know it's too good to be true but I'm having a hard time finding somebody who took the silly thing further than a phone call for proof it's a scam. sigh.

Just got a call from "mytropicalgetaways"

Just got a call from "mytropicalgetaways" with the caller id being "dvw inc.". Last week our family went to a local fair and one of the vendors had a table set up with "Home Depot" orange buckets to drop your form with your info into them for a chance to win a dream vacation. Well guess what? We WON a package of 5 free vacations that would COST $698.00 PLUS PORT TAX, TIPS, AIRFARE, DRINKS, AND I'M SURE FOOD FOR ANYTHING THATS NOT CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST! People, i said no to an offer that sounded to good to be true and so should you...

My Tropical Getaways

Hello Everyone,

We also received the call after attending the tequila show in Toronto. My boyfriend purchased the package for $298.00 (they tried to sell it to him for over 600.00 initially). We received the vacation certificates and I have just sent in the vacation requests today, so I will let you know how it works out for us! We will have to sit through some timeshare sessions on our trip but it will be well worth it if this actually works out.

If anyone has successfully used their certificates, I would like you to contact me and let me know how your vacation panned out!

Update re My Tropical Getaways

Hello,

I just wanted to update everyone on my experience so far after purchasing the package for $298.00, as stated above. I have now recieved both of my confirmations for the eight day trip we have booked. The process was painless and the prices were pretty much as promised ( about a $20.00 or so increase). (We paid just over $500.00 for the two nights on the cruise and four nights on the island and have paid nothing for the Ft Lauderdale stay). Obviously, we have to sit through a time share presentations at each location.

We booked three days/two nights in Ft. Lauderdale and the four night Bahamas Cruise and Stay (and paid for two additional nights on the island). The whole process was painless. I had even made a mistake and required a refund on something I ordered and that was processed right away (no questions asked). They sent offers of upgrade at an additional cost and we declined, again, no questions asked/no pushy tactics).

I received all responses by email within 12-24 hours and they had no issue answering any of my questions. I have recieved detailed confirmations and instructions via email. We now just have to book our flights and take the trip :)

We will be taking the trip in January so I will update once again at that time. If anyone has already taken one of these trips, please contact me.

vacation package

I filled out one of those door registrations packages at a local event. One week later, I get the call... which by the way, they tried calling every day this week... caller id comes up as "Florida", so I'd been ignoring it. I was offered a package too good to be true..Orlando, Daytona, Ft Lauderdale, Miami, 1 of 2 Bahama cruise options and a trip to Vegas. Had to be used within 3 years... yada yada ... had to decide NOW.
They wanted $698 up front - I asked why, they said I was buying a discounted vacation package - it wasn't free. There was also going to be a 90 resort tour at each location which I've done before... it's not 90 mins... its a 90 minute tour and then a wasted afternoon while they try to hard sell you. The guy on the phone assured me there wouldn't be a hard sell... they were just "looking for word of mouth advertising". Anyway - they wanted my CC # and an answer before I could talk to my husband about it. Luckily, I had another phone and the internet at my disposal, so I could research and talk to my husband before answering. I had a million questions for the guy, and he had his canned responses for everything, and the more I asked, the more agitated he got. When I finally declined, the guy lost his cool and told me "I'd end up kicking my own butt" for not taking his deal, and then abruptly hung up on me. Thank goodness I declined! What kind of legitimate organization conducts business that way.... buyer beware!

Update

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to provide you with an update. We went on the vacation that we set up through this same deal that you all have recieved calls for (please see my previous posts). We just got back two weeks ago.

We went on the Bahamas cruise for one night stayed on the island for four nights (we paid for an extra two nights on the island), spent one night on the cruise again to Florida, then we stayed in Fort Lauderdale for two nights.

The call is not a scam (although, we talked them down from 698.00 to around 298.00 for the package). I will say though that it is not any cheaper to take this deal than it would be for you to book an all inclusive vacation somewhere else (unless you don't drink, then it may be a little cheaper). BUT, I have to admit, this was the best vacation we ever had. A lot of your experience has to do with attitude. We knew going into this that their goal was to sell us timeshares. We knew that we would have to sit through a presentation at each location. In the end it was all worth it.

In both locations our rooms had full kitchens (except on the cruise) so we were able to cook all of our own meals and purchased very cheap alochol in the town and made our own drinks. The local people in the Bahamas were so friendly and spent time explaining to us how to cook their main local dishes. We went to their local markets for groceries ect. I definitely suggest renting a car - it made our lives much easier. I also suggest enrolling in the People to People program in the Bahamas. We were connected with someone who lives on the island and she showed us around and took us to a local fish fry they hold every Wednesday - it was the best night of the whole trip.

The time share presentation is a little agressive - but you just have to listen and give a FIRM no and they let you go. My boyfriend (as a joke) attempted to sell the guy a timeshare at our cottage half-way through the presentation - it made it much more entertaining. Then we were on our way.

We travel a lot. Admittedly, it's not the most luxurious vacation so if that is what you are after, don't do it. If you are open minded and looking to experience some culture, have patience to sit through time share presentations and want a unique experience - do it.

We still have other trips left in our package to take - we are looking forward to it.

I have a lot of pictures and information. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

The call is a scam because you mention you talked them down to $298, that is the going rate when you hum and haw, the supervisor comes back offering you the deal of 298. so you did not get your so called deal.

I have tried numerous times to use the vouchers and can't even get hold of the company. After waiting a bit to use the vouchers due to health reasons, I finally got well enough to go ahead with the booking, well surprise, surprise, phone number has changed, no one answers, email does not respond and due to time lapse, I have no recourse with VISA. I have joined the long list of burnt customers falling for these "sit through 90 minute, really 3 hour timeshare presentation scams" and they should be held accountable for their misdeeds. They are all a bunch of crooks and I can't understand how they get away with this so many times.

SCAMS SCAMS SCAMS CALLS

You should not answer those calls. They are scammers trying to get your money out of your pocket. They know really well how to confuse you! too good to be true even with a timeshare promotions you don't get a vacation package for 5 to 8 different resorts, plus a cruise, food and shows vouchers and companion vouchers for fly tickets. No way, you can't get all for only $ 398 as they were selling it to me last nigh- 08/31/16. Their phone number used for me was 754 206 1971,
