Non payment of auction proceeds
I purchased two small items from Cameo Auctions, after prompt payment I was told that Glen, business manager would delivery my items personally, as his daughter lived in Chelmsford where I also live.
He saw my life-times collection of gold & silver Pocket Watches, and I explained that as I was suffering from Leukaemia and wanted to sell some items to suppliment my reduced income.
After a few weeks I agreed for Glen the collect the 70 x Gold & Silver pocket watches to enter in a suitable auction.
The value of the collection was estimated/reserved at £12k to £15k.
The lot were (they tell me) sold for £8800 !!!! in December 2011, but to-date, I have only had the usual cheque in the post from Glen, false promises, and John told me I had been paid. Does anyone know there full names ???
The family are appalled that these callous people at Cameo would keep money that belongs to somone with a terminal illness.
I need help.

Our local Paper posted an article about Cameo today (Thursday 29th March) and we have also been in contact with Trading Standards at West Berkshire today. Needless to say that response from Cameo is full of mistruths – actually insults the intelligence of their customers.
Newbury Weekly News want to hear from anyone who has a view on Cameo their E Mail is [email protected] or telephone 01635564539
and Trading Standards are also encouraging people to contact them. It is West Berkshire Trading Standards – Sean Murphy or Jonathan Connor
[email protected] or [email protected] Telephone

Please support me and all of those that have been conned by this company by contacting the above and lets make sure no one else is treated in such a shambolic way.

Non Payment by Cameos
Cameo still claiming that it is just making mistakes. Tell that to the 20 people who have County Court Judgements that remain unpaid and the 70 people (from accross the world) who have now complained that they have not received money or those whose bank accounts were fraudulently accessed and money taken.
Trading Standards want to hear if you have any complaints against Cameo. E Mail is [email protected]

Cameo auctions
As many of the above complaints mine is very similar.
Cameo sold under 4 lots my collection of corgi models that i had collected over 15 years.
They were sold and they are even displayed on their past sales site for over £650.
However to date no payout. It is nearly 70 days since the sale and despite many calls(when they answer) I have received nothing but false promises and pathetic excuses.
I find it exceptionally difficult to understand how they can still trade without quite frankly being arrested and charged for fraud.
I have e-mailed the above trading standards over a week ago and have heard nothing, not even a confirmation of receiving my e-mail. So I am not holding much faith in their ability to help me.
With such people like this continueing to defraud the honest public and the authorities and justice system toothless, its a wonder that vigilante is not more common.
They should hang their heads in shame.

Cameo
Cameo sold items for us in June and September last year.We have phoned so many times, sent e-mails and written letters which
have been sent recorded delivery but still no money.
We were thinking of using the 'Small Claims Court' but after reading about other people trying the same thing without success it
would be a waste of time and money.
Please let 'Action Fraud' know about your case, their number is 0300 123 2040.

Cameo auctioneers
CONTROVERSIAL Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers has suspended trading due to “adverse publicity and a police investigation,” it emerged today (Friday).
Angry customers milled around the Midgham-based firm’s premises, but the shutters remained down.
A notice pinned to the door (pictured) read: “Due to the adverse publicity and a police investigation into a former member of staff Cameo has suspended business until the end of May.”
Earlier this week it emerged that Cameo blamed an “administration error” over claims that they wrongly and repeatedly took money from individuals’ bank accounts.
And in a statement – hotly contested by some of the victims – the Midgham-based firm claimed to have “corrected the mistake as soon as it was found.”
Meanwhile even more people have come forward to say that, despite never having bid in a Cameo auction, they discovered cash removed from their account which they have been unable to get back.
The Cameo statement went on to say the firm no longer had any “outstanding issues” with consumer watchdogs – a claim also denied by West Berkshire Council trading standards chiefs yesterday (Wednesday).
Since Newburytoday.co.uk’s sister publication, the Newbury Weekly News, first reported clients’ concerns over Cameo’s business practises, more than 70 complainants from across Britain and beyond have alleged non-payment, bounced cheques or lost items.
In addition, there are the numerous allegations that Cameo took money from the bank accounts of people who had never even taken part in an auction.
Among the latest was 53-year-old John MacKay from Northampton who said this week he was shocked to find £258.43 had mysteriously been removed from his bank account by Cameo in March, despite never having bid at their auction.
It has emerged that he and others had registered with an online firm that acts as go-between between auctions and live bidders – the-saleroom.com – which led to the firm suspending Cameo from access to its online bidding process.
Managing director, Anne Somers said at the time: “Some people registered with the intention to be an online bidder at some point. They then found transactions appearing on their bank statements despite never having bid. We gave Cameo every opportunity to explain but their explanations weren’t substantiated and resolutions weren’t delivered.”
Cameo is now linked to a rival company, easyliveauction.com which stated they were “satisfied by Cameo’s explanations” for the deluge of complaints.
Cameo is also currently subject to 18 outstanding county court judgements involving sums totalling almost £20,000 but in the statement, Cameo boss Jon King suggests the firm itself it the victim, adding: “There is no reference to any (money) owed to us.”
The statement, which branded the complaints to the NWN “malicious,” concluded that the issue had been “blown out of all proportion by the press and public.”
Spokesman for West Berkshire Council’s trading standards department, Sean Murphy, this week denied that all issues had been resolved with Cameo and urged anyone with a complaint to contact West Berkshire Council’s trading standards department via email [email protected] and headline the correspondence ‘Cameo.’

cameo
On the 29th March we went to Cameo and put a large amount of crockery, coins, notes .brass and white friars glass for auction ,but three days later we heard cameo was having a lot of bad media coverage. We rang cameo to say we would like to pick up our things the phone went to answer machine as it did every time we rang. so we paid them a visit .We were told we would have to wait as they could not get at our items but they would ring us and let us know when to pick it up .After not hearing back from cameo i rang and rang with no reply so i emailed them still no reply. The next day we went back to pick up our goods but was still told no,they would ring in the morning to say when we could pick them up, still waiting, my wife and myself went back on Thursday the 19th April and confronted them again and still was told they would have to be put out for collection but we went into the show room and we could see our items still boxed up with our name on and still packed as we left them.I have sent many emails to them asking to pick our property up but still no response. All we want is our goods back. they even put one lot of our brass in the auction without emailing us to let us know the lot number as was explained on our first visit this was sold for £10. On their posters it says we will keep you up to date with things ,we have never had any emails or phone calls from them.We called in today 27th April but all was shut up, we were informed by the security on site that trading standards were there and the best thing to do was to report it to the police ,which we have now done.

Cameo Auctions
On 4 April Steve from Cameo Auctions music section called round and valued our collection of around 100 vinyl albums at £50-£80. He took the collection away with him and said that they would be put in the music sale of 1 May. Did he know even then that things with Cameo were not right? You know the rest. We would really like our albums back. What chance is there? Dawn

Cameo Auctioneers
Gave 3 items to Cameo to auction in their 27th March 2012 auction. First item went for £30, 2nd item £140 and 3rd £180, totalling £350.00 less 20% equalling £280.00. Have received nothing and dont expect to get a penny. Have dealt with Cameo for over 8 years buying from them regularly at their auction and this is how they treat you. Hope they get all thats coming to them!!!!!!!

Cameo Auctioneers
My collection of film posters were auctioned by cameo in december 2011 and also march 2012 like many other people i have not recieved a single payment after many threats of legal action which didnt even budge them. I am very disappointed on reading other complaints, i am not likely to recieve anything which obviousely makes me very mad and confrontational but i will endeavour to get some answers because i like many others put faith into these people to do me a service and create goodwill within the auctioneer business.
