Poor Shingle Life - Bad Warranty!

I'm having the exact same problem - even got the exact same rejection letter.

Has anyone had success getting them to pay a claim? My shingles are clearly defective - all of them are splitting in half after 10 years - they are 25 year shingles.

Poor Shingle Life - Bad Warranty!

After 9 years, my 25 year BP shingles were toast. I'm in the process now of going to small claims court, but would be interested in joining a class action law suit.

Poor Shingle Life - Bad Warranty!

I have had BP shingles installed on my roof in 2006. They had to be replaced last June again.
I email BP in Lasalle, Quebec, Canada and advise them to see what they would do. They did not even reply. I have contaced my lawyer and will be filing a claim for 2006 and for 2011. My lawyer mentioned it could take a year but he feels that there is a good chance we could win. I asked BP to settle for the cost of the installation in June which would have been 7, 500 Cad but since they have not replyed I will be seaking damages around 20, 000 Can ( two installs, time lost and some other damages)I will also having some of the BP personell ( VP of operations and production manager) go to court to explain the poor quality of their product ( as least get them in court to waste the day and have them listed on the claim files.I even have pictures to file with the courts. Waiting for the contractor to get me the bills so I can get my lawyer to file early March. Sure wish we had some gouverment protection here in Canada, but this will never happen.

Poor Shingle Life - Bad Warranty!

I got the same form letter denying my warranty. I found out about a class action against BP in London, Ont. 519-679-9660
Depending what happens to my claim in Small Claims Court, I might join it. You can't double dip though.

BP Mosaic shingles

Has anyone had any further follow-up with BP? I just replaced the shingles on a roof and the claim led to their standard rejection letter...except that I did not use standard construction, i.e.no attic, no need for ventilation.
I am going to small claims court or Better Business Bureau....did anyone go through either?
Thanks

BP Canada Shingles claim process

BP Canada has made the process of submitting a claim under the class action lawsuit incredibly difficult. I don't see how anyone much less an elderly or disabled person can reasonably fulfill BP Canada's arcane and arbitrary conditions. Their IT system is is the worst I've ever seen in 30+ years in the IT business. And it seems that many (all?) claims are arbitrarily denied for not using standard construction or failure to meet building codes, something that is impossible for them to determine without an inspection. In addition, the contractors who installed the shingles could not complete an installation without local municipalities verifying that the job met code.

BP Eclipse shingles

I have followed all the requirements of BP for filing the claim through the Class Action Suit in Canada. And I finally got a reply. My shingles were guaranteed for life. I still have part of a package that says that. I have two very bad slopes and the other slopes are not so good either. Their reply is that they will cover 66% of what they imagine the cost of new shingles for these two slopes would be, certainly not including the installation. These two slopes cover between 10% and 15% of the whole roof. These shingles were installed 11 years ago so the new ones will certainly not match. I will need to replace the whole roof and their offer would even not cover 10% of the cost. And they don't even make the brand that was used for my roof anymore. Is there a message in that? I will surely pursue new avenues. I am in the opinion that the whole thing was handled by BP themselves through their lawyers. Sounds like a bogus Class action suit. Anybody else thinks that?

BP Mystique Shingles will not stay on

I purchase these in 2006 and they will not stay on - the strip that should hold them together is defective and they will not warranty them - they say the wind warranty is only for the first 5 Years - It’s not the wind that's the problem it's the shingles will not stick together.. NO LUCK - stay away from BP - there has to be another way to get these thieves to pay! 30 year warranty.. Really, what does that really mean?? NOTHING

BP Eclipse shingles

We purchased our BP Eclipse shingles in 2003 and spent big bucks so I wouldn't have to deal with my roof for a long time. But I was wrong, I chose BP Eclipse.
They had me do all this work to take pictures and make drawings of the roof. It took along time to get a response, and the decision was for an 1/8 of my roof. They told me that the rest of the roof has to wear out a little bit more to be able to get rein burst and I would have to do all the paper work all over again in a year or so. I told them that if I fall off the roof taking pictures and getting the info they want I will start a new lawsuit.
Why should we have to do all this work and put our life in jeopardy because of their inferior product???
I want my roof completely replaced at no cost to me, If not then I will unleash a media frenzy. We have a physically and mentally 20 year old handicap son and can't afford to spend another dime on a roof.

Bp eclipse shingles

I have gone through the long and agonizing claim for the defective bp shingles that are less than 9 years old. They are crumbling. I submitted the claim. Took over 20 pics of roof etc. never heard back after submitting twice..they lost my first file. Finally I emailed to check on the claim. They said they emailed the denial letter in January and I had only 35 days to respond. It's past 35 days. I never received the denial letter. Reason was not proper attic ventilation. I have no idea how they concluded that reason since I told them I don't have access to my attic to take pics.
What can i do? This is consumer fraud!

BP Eclipse Shinge Rip Off

My home is only 7 years old and the shingles look like they are over 20. I too went through the pain staking process of taking the many pictures and gathering roof drawings to send of to BP. They finaly sent their response in January which indicated they would only do the front slope of my home (the roof over my porch area) which is not that big. They had a dollar value which I thought was low but could not get a roofer to do an estimate being it was in the middle of January and not to mention 3 feet of snow on my roof. The letter indicated that I only had 35 days to appeal this. I could not appeal at that time as I had nothing to appeal as I needed a roofer to do an estimate first. Finaly in May, I had a roofer estimate the job. He informed me that he would not do the job and no other roofer would either due to the fact the roof to be repaird was too small of a job. Also, he informed me that the cost would be close to 3 times more than what BP would offer.
I called BP and they would not hear anything I have said. They would only say that I have passed my 35 day appeal period and that is the end of it. I am so #$#### angry at such a disgusting company. I have contacted the media and will be going public with this. I have also contacted Government protection agencies and my MLA. They may not want to pay for my re-shingling of my roof but I will not rest untill I have shared my story and the BP name across Canda. I hope anyone who has had issues like this will contact me at my email address as I believe in FORCE by NUMBERS. I am a bulldog and will not back down untill justice is served. I hope I hear from many so we can lobby all agencies as a huge group and get what we deserve as consumers.
My email address is remover@ hotmail.ca.

Need info about BP Eclipse shingle lawsuit

Hi, we had our roof re-shingled in 2004, and for the past two years we've noticed that it has been degrading badly. This past summer has seen it disintegrate and scatter black pellets all over our deck and all the edge curl up and crumble. When I dug out the invoice for the work, I discovered that these were BP Eclipse shingles, and that they are the subject of a class action lawsuit. I have read about so many people going through pointless activities trying to get satisfaction from BP, so I was wondering if anyone has any information about how we can be part of the lawsuit that is currently underway. I don't know what all my options are at this point, but a complete re-roof is fiscally out of the question. We have a huge roof and the original bill 11 years ago was almost $18K. I can't do that again so soon! If someone could post more information if they have it, that would be great. Thanks.

fingers crossed

Unfortunate truth

Sadly the realism out there, regardless of who manufactures your roof shingles, the manufacturer isn't likely to validate any warranty. We used to have a shingle manufacturer as a customer at work and we found out that the only way you truly get a warranty on your roof shingles is if you get the manufacturer to send somebody out to install them. Other than that, you will almost always get a response that says it's not their product, it was an installation issue. And good luck getting the installer to do anything for you. Other than maybe being willing to charge you again to fix it. Best thing you can do is be thorough in your research of picking a roofer. If possible look at local roofs done by them that are at least ten years old and still look good. That should give you at least a little peace of mind. Then make sure you have your fingers crossed when you have your roof done and hand over the wad of cash. Hopefully you get 75% worth of what you are told is a 25yr warranty on your investment. I'm about to do just that!
